Til Death Do Us Art and Super Empty Present: Live From Teardrop FM
A stacked lineup brings a bit of everything to Kings Raleigh on May 10th.

For the rest of March and April, we're experimenting with Substack as the home for all things Super Empty, so we will be publishing there rather than here. If you've followed a link to this page, please go to our Substack page and subscribe there.
Over here at Super Empty, it's a major goal in 2025 to take these articles off the page and into the real world, in the form of events and shows. So how providential that a couple weeks ago, videographer/photographer/interviewer Artist of Til Death Do Us Art would reach out about helping with a bill he'd put together — Live From Teardrop FM, May 10th at Kings Raleigh — not only at a venue near and dear to my heart, but with a stacked, diverse lineup of artists who any reader of Super Empty would know well.
There's 22-year-old Durhamite Jaythehbk, whose recent EP, TEARDROP FM, we covered last month alongside CJ Monét's Catharsis as a duo of moody, modern R&B releases with an unmistakably human touch:

There's Khalil Nasim, whose brilliant, years-in-the-making album, THE DISAPPEARING ACT, is one of the state's first true standout releases of the year. Back in early February, BrassiousMonk gave us a dispatch from Raleigh venue The Portal HQ, at the listening party where TDA was first played live.

Joey Zen, another young Raleigh (by way of South Florida) emcee, was featured in our January roundup of the best songs of the month, for the track "No Faith." The album it belongs to, God's Instructions, is out now.

Last but definitely not least, the veteran of the bunch, is Ace Henderson, a Brooklyn-born, Raleigh-raised rapper/writer/singer who I've been making things with and about since at least this freestyle video in 2014 — but there's material worth perusing far more recent than that. In SE's first-ever "Best Of The Year" roundup for 2024, I called Henderson the "undeniable glue guy" of a dark horse candidate for NC's best alt-hip-hop/R&B album of 2024, FRGN-SPCMN's RIDE AROUND THE SUN. He dropped off a new EP in December, #4LOCALSONLY, including my personal favorite, "BLOCKWORK," which from its breezy but slightly off-kilter production to his plaintive, multi-layered vocal delivery, is quintessential Ace.

Jay, Khalil, Joey, Ace — it all goes down in less than two months, May 10th at Kings Raleigh. Tickets are on sale now for $12.75 direct from Kings, a few bucks cheaper than they'll be the day of the show. Get yours now, get it on your calendar (speaking of Calendars... we've got a pretty handy new one for hip-hop in the RDU), and let's make it the great night that, given this lineup, it deserves to be.
